Awkward Times Two

How awkward for two opposing magazines have the same cover guy? Leave it to Ed Westwick who did a great job gracing the covers of Candy (Summit Media) & Chalk (ABS-CBN Publishing) Magazines.

I smell some pressure here, hmmm.

L-O-V-E: The Hard Way

Falling in love is the sweetest thing a person will ever feel in his entire lifetime - and I mean, romantic love. For love changes the entire game play. It is the reason some leave their successful careers, living low key off from the high society, or maybe changing one's religious beliefs. You see, a lot of things can change in the name of love. And mixed feelings can be felt, be it smile cannot be taken away from your face, you feel a lot of positive energy, gives inspiration for work or at school, and maybe good vibes (as this generation would say) allow you to be more productive yet rejuvenated. But this four-letter word substantially differs among individuals. Read below some of the greatest love letters that will somehow help us - the rookies  - enlighten for this thing they call love:

John Keats to Fanny (1820):
Sweetest Fanny,
You fear, sometimes, I do not love you so much as you wish?
My dear girl I love you ever and ever and without reserve.
The more I have known you the more have I lov'd.

Juliette Drouel to Victor Hugo (1835):
You are not only the solar spectrum with the seven luminous colours,
but the sun himself, that illumines, warms, and revivifies!
This is what you are, and I am the lowly woman that adores you.

Woodrow Wilson to Edith Galt (1915):
You are more wonderful and lovely in my eyes than you ever were before;
and my pride and joy and gratitude that you should love me
with such a perfect love are beyond all expression,
except in some great poem which I cannot write.

Lucky for those who already found their better halves. Maybe it was the person they bumped in MRT, someone they met on the internet, a schoolmate, a co-worker, or maybe a total stranger. Some through a short and easy way to finding someone that completes them. But for others, a long detour is necessary and is still running along the pavement. If love is synonymous with happiness, how can a person be happy if he haven't found the love of his life? The one he can sit adjacent to while watching the sun sets? Or would it be better to stay right where you stand until the one finds you? After two consecutive failed personal attempts on being happy, I learned the hard way - let love find you. After all, you're not the only one seeking for love. We can never tell that your better half might be also finding you. And as Carrie Bradshaw would always tell Samantha Jones (SATC), "Good things come to those who wait."

Weekend Winner

Last Saturday & Sunday was the best of its kind for me this season so far. Together with my good friends Marvin & Carlo, we went to Araneta Coliseum with the hopes of watching the UAAP Cheerdance Competition live. And yes! We did watch it, after a couple of hours waiting for the ticket booth to open under the scorching heat of the sun. The experience was surreal, we had a blast, and enjoyed watching it live. Really, there are no words I can utter to express how it felt like in the Big Dome, hearing the crowd screaming their university cheers and that, I will treasure.

Inside the SMART Araneta Coliseum, w/ the crowd full
of excitement.

The experience was surreal. Just had the thought of needing a hearing aid after the aforesaid event, 'coz the drum beat nearly made us deaf (lol)! Anyway, after that, we got to meet Rich & Clint still in the Araneta Center, then we headed straight to Eastwood to have dinner & hangout a lil bit. But 'twas not that easy 'coz it took us almost an hour getting a cab.  A lot happened there, we had dinner, drank a little, and partied a lot!

The next day, Carlo & Rich toured us to the campus of the prime catholic university here in the Philippines, University of Santo Tomas (UST). We got hyped up seeing their huge campus - and I mean huge. And in lieu with their quadricentennial (can you imagine that?) celebration, we saw a couple of "400" figures erected and distributed evenly on their campus. It felt like we were warped way way back in the past, seeing all the old yet larger-than-life structures.

Surely, this is one of those moments that will always have a small corner in my heart. Will never forget the happiness it brought me, even if that cost us a lot of ankle and hamstring pain, lol.

SLUMBAH PARTAH

Lat night, together with close friends, Jen, Mimi, Maine, & her boyfriend Ching, we did something very usual to the circle: A Slumber Party. Yeah, we cooked our finger foods, Jen brought some doughnuts, and had fun the entire night, ignoring our classes the next day.

Whose foot was that anyway? Haha

With Mimi & the foodies. Yum!
Thanks to Maine for being so kind on letting us stay and party in her room. This is one of those simple things that brings simple joy to us. 'Til next time, hope we'll have a lot like this. Fun, fun fun!

INTRAAAMS!

This is how we rocked the week-long intrams last week. On the first day, our organization, Service For Peace, launched its "Pastries For A Cause" booth. We did sell an ample array of sweets that day, together with fellow members & officers.

These are the very delish fruit tarts! Yum.
I decided to wear wear something simple for the sporty event & for the booth. And look,I've worn the shoes I bought seven months ago, lol. Here are our photos with fellow officers.

ANTM All-Star

So I'm really excited for America's Next Top Model Cycle 17 which they call, ANTM All-Star. All of our favorite past aspirants will be the contenders now for this cycle. Fab prizes still await the winner, plus another round of high-fashion madness. Looking forward for their weekly shoot with uber fierce themes. Plus, did I mention that the very controversial Alexandria - from cycle 16 - will be back? So here's a peek for the show, posted by Tyra Banks herself in her Twitter account earlier.

Can't wait for another dose of drama, catwalk, and smize. Today's (PH time) the pilot screening of ANTM All-Star in the US,  but in the Philippines, it'll be shown on September 19, 2011 via ETC.

Basic Standout

Never underestimate basic pieces from boutiques' basic corners. You see, they might be boring at first, but a well-assembled outfit from a pile of basic stuff, is somewhat classy yet unignorable.  I personally love them because I think they're classic and do not easily get out of trend. Just mix & match them according to your disposition, and you'll realize countless possibilities you can do with them.

Ready For Cashless Shopping

This afternoon, my good friend, Mimi & I managed to inquire about the Debit MasterCard PS Bank offers. We got there at around 3:40pm and thanks to their very nice staff, we learned more about the card. Right then and there, we decided to open an account for the said card and as their print ad says, we got the card after 30 minutes! Talking about their staffs, they also photocopied our IDs which was very nice of them. So we got our cards at exactly 4:15pm. And I think that's a good service every bank should possess.

And I love how they set a new standard for banking nowadays, simplicity.

EYE Shine

For the people, including me, who want to have an instant revamped look without changing a lot, contact lens have been the best friend. Just as the saying goes, that our eyes are the window to our souls, why not make those windows uber fab? In my own observation, it started with our Korean friends when KPOP proliferated in the Philippines. So it's not a surprise that it easily became a hit! Everyone seemed to be carried away by how fascinating contact lens change your aura and instantly upgrade your style.

And it even gained more popularity when it became visible in print and ads, like Anne Curtis & Liz Uy did. It had its own fair share of exposure and the crowd became very aggressive to get a pair. And so cheap contact lens mushroomed in the market, attracting the masses.

You Complete The Equation

Guilty as charged, I'm a hopeless romantic so when this person got close to me and took a new level of friendship, I feel so joyful and it keeps me satisfied this past few weeks. But for three days now, I've been very frustrated because something came up. I know I should've prepared myself for unexpected things that might hurt me, but this? I can't believe. So this morning, I saw the music video of Beyonce's 1+1 via MYX. And I was really moved, for it describes my expectations which ended up disappointing me.

If I aint got nothing, I got youIf I aint got something I don't give a damn, cause I got it with youI don't know much about algebra, but I know one plus one equals twoAnd it's me and you, thats all we'll have when the world is thru
Cause baby we aint got nothing without loveDarling you got enough for the both of usSo come on baby, make love to me
When my days look low, pull me in close and don't let me go.Make love to me. So that when the worlds at war, that our love heal us allRight now baby make love to me...me...me...mee...mee. ooh ooh make love to me.
Hey! I don't know much about guns but I...I've been shot by youHey! And I don't know when I'm gon die, but I hope that I'm gon die by youHey! And I don't know much about fighting, but I, I know I will fight for youHey! Just when I ball up my fist I realize that I'm laying right next to you
Baby we aint nothing but love, and darling you got enough for the both of usMake love to me...when my days look low, pull me in close and don't let me go.Make love to me...so that when the worlds at war, that our love heal us allHelp me let down my guard, make love to me…me..me….me..meee ooh ooh ooh make love to me...me...me...mee...mee.

Uncertainly Pop

This is what I did this morning to boost up my mood for the whole day. This has been on my plans for a while and I'm glad it finally came to life. I just wanted to have a personalized/inspiring cover for the clear book I use in our review classes every Sunday. Just so whenever I'm bored, I could look up to something I could smile for a moment. I'm just still unsure if the Pop Culture I'm thinking is justified with this, haha. Nevertheless, this kept me busy for a while this morning.

I ♥ Long Weekends!

Don't you just love the long weekends we have now? First was last Aug. 26 to 30 - Friday to Tuesday, because of WUPFSA (something connected w/ our university, too complicated, but thanks to this haha) and the end of Ramadan - and now, Sept. 2 to 4 (Nueva Ecija day + regular weekend). To all these, I am enjoying my stay in our house, except for those days that I was really sick and when we did our thesis yesterday.

Okay, over of them school stuffs, I'm biting into the bright side 'coz I got to watch yesterday Zombadings: Patayin Sa Shokot Si Remington with my good friend / fellow blogger, Marvin (his blog, click here). I must say 'twas a breath of fresh air 'coz gay-themed movies on the main stream are rare in the Philippine limelight. The movie was so light, love the becky lines though I hardly understand them, well thanks to the subtitle, lol. The best part that I literally rolled from my chair laughing was when Roderick Paulate's character did the funniest act in the movie (you have to see that for yourself guys).

Now, I'm enjoying the Kylie Minogue BoomBox album I downloaded for my phone. And I'm loving the club mix vibe of it, feels like I'm in Encore, haha. Is it the start of me, becoming a fan of hers? Plus I get to update more my social networking accounts and, of course, post more here in my blog.

What did you do guys out of our long weekends? :)

Anne Curtis x Preview

So, the lovely Showtime muse is Preview's fab September 2011 issue cover. Really love seeing Anne Curtis on a magazine cover because of her charm, wit, & sophistication. Plus, I love how the background is juxtaposing with her hair & make-up.

If BOOTS Could Kill

Boots, for the past six seasons now, have gained its delicious popularity. Many thought that it would be awkward to wear boots on summer, guess what? It's just a hit! For instance, Folded & Hung used boots on their Spring/Summer 2011 show. Y'see, boots - I reckon - became a vast thing now, primarily because of its versatility, comfort, and style of course. They vary from ankle to knee-high, from leather to canvas, from formal to casual, from patent to playful. And you can wear them for at least with casual to smart casual or even to semi-formal outfits without looking over-rated nor ill.

Patent Knee-High Boots, PENSHOPPE Holiday 2011.

It's also kind of thrilling to see celebrities and personalities wearing boots. Just like Greater Good owner, Mike Concepcion in Doc Martens boots. And Victor Basa for Penshoppe in Philippine Fashion Week Holiday 2011.

Give your closet a kick by adding a pair or two to your "shoe section" (haha), and promise, you'll never go wrong wearing them. Be proud, wear them high or low, but take it easy and slow.
